Reverend Beatrice E. Ross

Reverend Beatrice Ross

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer. 29:11

Reverend Beatrice E. Ross loves the Lord with her whole heart. She joined the Thankful Baptist Church in August 2013. She was a member of Second Macedonia for over 26 years.

Rev. Ross received her preaching license in June 2006 under the late Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Ritter. She can be found faithfully serving in the Sunday School, and preaching and teaching when called upon. She is honored to have the opportunity to influence the lives of others with the Word of God and from the lessons she have learned.

Rev. Ross earned a B.S. Degree from Drexel Univ., a Master of Science Degree from Central Michigan University, Master of Ministry Degree from Anderson University, a Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education from Delaware Valley College, and a certificate in biblical studies from Bethel Bible Institute. In April 2012, she earned the distinction of being a Distinguished Toastmaster, the highest honor in Toastmasters International a communication and leadership organization.

Rev. Ross has been employed with the Department of Defense since June 1980. In 2001 she earned the title of Certified Logistics Practitioner.

Rev. Ross is married to Rev. Gregory Ross (Sept 1986) and they are the proud parents of two sons, Eugene and Evan.

She is confident of this, He who begun a good work in her will perform it until the day of Christ’s return. (Phil. 1:6)


Helena Hambright

Minister Helena Hambright
has been a good and faithful member of Thankful Baptist Church since 2006 joining her family who have been members and officers at the Church since 1959. After joining the church she immediately became active singing on the Hewitt Inspirational Choir, a member of the Women’s Ministry and Usher. After receiving her calling to preach the gospel she was prepared and licensed by our Pastor the late Reverend Ivan B Hewitt in August of 2011.

Minister Hambright attended the Melvin Floyd School of Evangelism and the New Life Ministries Missionary School in Philadelphia and is preparing to continue her studies. Minister Hambright is very active in the Young Adult Church and teaches the Adult Sunday School class.

Her two favorite scriptures are:
Colossians 1:9 "For this cause we also, since the day We heard it, we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding."

James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Reverend Barbara Day
, the third of seven, she was born in Phila, Pa.  She attended the Philadelphia Public schools and graduated from Kensington High School for Girls.

At an early age, Barbara joined the cornerstone Baptist Church, and then located at Broad and Master Streets in 1963.  She later joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church located at 10th & Dauphin Streets.  There she sang with the Chancellor Choir, directed Vacation Bible School, she served a Youth Director and was in the Deaconess Ministry.  She also served as the superintendent of Sunday school for many years, she also taught Sunday school classes for all ages.
Reverend Day attended the Center for Urban Theological Studies, where she received an Associate degree in Biblical studies.  

In 1997 she was lead to the Thankful Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. Ivan B. Hewitt, whose humbleness made her spiritual journey a true blessing.  Under the innate direction of God, she received her ministerial license in December of 1999.

Being a devoted member of Thankful, Reverend Day serves on the ministerial staff, teaches the Upper Balcony Adult Sunday school class, and is a member of the Mission Ministry and her passion is working with the youth of the church.
Reverend Day is the mother of one son, Reginald Day and the proud Mom Mom of her granddaughter Londyn Day.  As of June 1, 2012, she retired after 45 years of employment at the U.S. Customs Service.

Reverend Day was ordained into the ministry on February 16, 2013 at the Thankful Baptist by her pastor, Reverend Ivan B. Hewitt.

One of her favorite Hymns is, “What a friend we have in Jesus”.  Her favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall continually be in my mouth.


Reverenced Margaret Turlington
Reverenced Margaret turlington was born in Louisberg, North Carolina, one of 14 children born to Nina and Ben Goode. Upon the passing of her mother, she was left to raise her siblings.

In 1942, at an early age, she was called to the ministry and ran many revivals. In 1944 she moved to Philadelphia and also ran revivals.

She later moved to Westbury, Long island, New York where she attended school and worked.

After returning to Philadelphia, she met and married the late David Turlington. To this union three children were born. Nina, Lisa, David Gregory and Michelle (deceased). She is also the proud grandmother of five and great grandmother of two.

Rev. T. as she is affectionately called, has studied under Rev. Charles ransom of Detroit, Michigan and is a graduate of Emmanuel Institutional Bible School.

On May 3, 1992, Rev. T. joined Thankful Baptist Church and is currently president of the Prayer Band. She is also a member of the Deaconess Ministry, Balcony Bible Class and Ministerial staff.

Her favorite scriptures are Psalm 34, Psalm 103 and Philippians 4:13, favorite hymn: “What A Friend We in Jesus”.

Reverend Turlington says, she loves the Lord, and she knows and is learning what the Lord requires of her, to do justly and love and mercy and walk humble with God and to do unto others as God would have her to do.


Reverenced Gerald Love
Gerald was born on November 24, 1959 in Philadelphia, Pa; he is a product of the Philadelphia School system. Gerald joined thankful Baptist Church in the early 70’s. It was at Thankful that I got a spiritual education and Baptist training.  On December 2, 1979, I gave my trial sermon and was given a license to preach the gospel by Rev. Harrison J. Trapp. I learned the gospel under the late Pastor Trapp and grew in favor of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

While here at Thankful I joined many organizations. I serve my church as an Associate Minister, President of Senior Ushers, pastor Aide Ministry, Sunday school, Missions Ministry, Nurses Ministry, and the Prayer band Ministry.
In 1987 Gerald graduated from The National Education with an Associate degree in Specialized Business. In 1989, Gerald graduated from the Philadelphia Bible College with a diploma, in 1997; he graduated from the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a certificate in Christian Ministry.

Gerald is a member of the Progressive Baptist Convention, where he serves as Treasurer of the Missions. He is the past Vice President at large of the Young adult Men’s Department Eastern Region. He serves as auditor of the Evening Baptist minister’s Conference. He is past President of the Baptist usher’s brotherhood. He is President of the northwest Baptist congress of Christian. He is a life time member of the NAACP.

In 1998, Gerald was named one of the outstanding young men in America. Gerald loves to travel all over the United States. He has been employed with the Internal Revenue Service for over 28 years.

His motto is: If I can help somebody as I pass along then my living shall not be in vain.
