Reverend Barbara Day

Reverend Barbara Day is the third of seven children. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public scho63,ol system and graduated from Kensington High School for Girls.

 

In 1963, at an early age, Barbara joined the Cornerstone Baptist Church, then located at Broad and Master Streets. She later joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church located at 10th & Dauphin Streets. There she sang with the Chancellor Choir, directed Vacation Bible School, served as Youth Director and was in the Deaconess Ministry. She also taught and served as the Superintendent of Sunday School for many years .

 

Reverend Day attended the Center for Urban Theological Studies now a part of Lancaster Bible College, where she received an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies. 

 

In 1997 she was led by the Lord to the Thankful Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Rev. Ivan B. Hewitt. Because of his humbleness, he made her spiritual journey a true blessing. Under the innate direction of God, she received her ministerial license in December of 1999. Additionally, Reverend Day was ordained into the gospel ministry on February 16, 2013 at the Thankful Baptist by her pastor, Reverend Ivan B. Hewitt.

 

Being a devoted member of Thankful, Reverend Day serves on the ministerial staff, teaches the Upper Balcony Adult Sunday School class, and is a member of the Missionary Ministry and her passion is working with the youth of the church.


Reverend Day is the mother of one son, Reginald Day and the proud Mom Mom of her granddaughter Londyn Day. As of June 1, 2012, she retired after 45 years of employment at the U.S. Customs Service.

One of her favorite Hymns is, “What a friend we have in Jesus”. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
