Reverend Gregory Ross, Pastor
Rev. Gregory Ross is the sixth Senior Pastor of the Thankful Baptist Church located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was installed on Saturday, November 12, 2016. The church’s theme is “A Thankful People Serving A Faithful God”

Rev. Ross was born, raised and educated in the City of Philadelphia. He takes pride in being a family man who loves the Lord, the church, and to preach and teach the unadulterated Word of God. He was a committed member of the Second Macedonia Baptist Church in Philadelphia, pastored by the late Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Ritter. There he was ordained a deacon (1982) and licensed to preach (1999). He served as an Associate Minister, Administrative Assistant to the Pastor, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Music Ministry Choir Director and numerous other roles. He was ordained into the Full Gospel Ministry by the Thankful Baptist Church in February 2013 under the late pastor
Rev. Ivan B. Hewitt.
Pastor Ross initially came to the Thankful Baptist Church as a seminary student. He was heavily involved with Sunday School, Evangelism, reinstituted the children's choir as well as established a youth band. He encouraged the movement of numerous youth events from the church dining hall to the church parking lot. He also was instrumental in enhancing the church's relationship with GEGISOM, Georgia E Gregory Interdenominational School of Music, where the church has partnered to present the Allegheny Avenue Arts Fest, an annual event that brings different genres of music from across the city to perform in the 1600 block of Allegheny Avenue.
Pastor Ross has been instrumental in enhancing the spiritual structure at the Thankful Baptist Church. He reestablished the Board of Christian Education, the numerous choirs were combined under the current Voices of Thankful, and he established a Praise Team. Under his administration he also instituted an Evangelism Ministry, the Technology Team Ministry, S.T.E.A.M. Club, Fresh Fire Blog and the Young Adult Ministry.
Pastor Ross is a graduate of Central High School. Continuing his education, he earned a B.S. Degree from Drexel University (Accounting), a M.B.A Degree from LaSalle University (Finance), and a M. Div. from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, now called United Lutheran Seminary (Black Church Concentration).
Pastor Ross is an accomplished financial professional. Before retiring in September 2024, he worked for Campbell Soup Company, Vlasic Foods International, Pinnacle Foods, Signal Holdings, Assurant Solutions and Cardone Industries, Inc.
Additionally, Pastor Ross served from 1985 to 2018, as an adjunct faculty member of the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design at Drexel University, where he directed the Drexel University Gospel Choir. This choir traveled throughout the United States and abroad praising the Lord through song, mime and dance. Under his direction, the choir has released a live CD and CD/DVD projects, “Not to Us” (2003) and “Lord Make Me A Vessel” (2015) on which Pastor Ross penned several Reverend Gregory Ross of the songs, including the title tracks to both. He received numerous awards as an adjunct faculty member at Drexel University due to his committed service to the campus community.
For nearly 40 years, he has been married to his college sweetheart, the Rev. Dr. Beatrice Elaine Ross. They are the proud parents of two sons who also married to their college sweethearts. Eugene Gregory married to the former Andrea Gould (grandson Zackai), and Evan Gregory married to the former Maryem Gad.
Pastor Gregory Ross praises God for an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone that he meets. He realizes that today more than ever, Jesus needs to be lifted up so that spiritually dying men, women, boys and girls will find hope and eternal life in Christ.
